How can a computer know me better than myself???
The very notion sounds quite futuristic and a little scary. But with personality testing, computers are able to tell us about our strengths and weaknesses, romantic relationships, friendships, parenthood, career paths and workplace habits.
I am fascinated by personality testing. I find it can help you to understand yourself better and explain what makes you tick. I’m going to give you the top three personality tests I’ve found so that you can try them out for yourself.
The best one I’ve found a friend introduced me to recently – 16 Personalities.
There’s a reason why their tagline is:
“It’s so incredible to finally be understood.”
Once you complete the questionnaire, it gives you a very in-depth breakdown of strengths and weaknesses, romantic relationships, friendships, parenthood, career paths and workplace habits.
I discovered I was The Campaigner – Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Prospecting, Assertive. It told me very specific things like what drives my desire to try new things and what types of people and managers I work best with.

A classic favourite is The 5 Love Languages. This test helps you to understand how you most like to receive love. It’s fun to do with a loved one so they know how to best show you love and how you can show them love.
The 5 Love Languages are:
Acts of Service / Words of Affirmation / Physical Touch / Quality Time / Receiving Gifts
Mine were in the order above and The Frenchy and I really enjoyed doing it and reminding each other what our love language is.
What I’ve found with my own results in The 5 Love Languages is that the things that came naturally in my relationship – Quality Time and Physical Touch weren’t as high a priority for me. What I was craving more of were things that weren’t second nature. So perhaps your Love Language can change depending on the person you’re doing it with.
People have also been known to take this test as a team in a work context, so both management and colleagues know how to appreciate each other. Some people like Words of Affirmation when they do a good job, some like mentorship (or Quality Time) with their manager, some love it when you buy them lunch (Acts of Service). Either personally or professionally, I highly recommend it. http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
The third one I discovered recently is the RHETI (Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator) Sampler at The Enneagram Institute. This one for me really confirmed and solidified what 16 Personalities had said. The philosophy behind this one is that we are born with one dominant personality type and grow to perhaps see a little of all of the types in our personalities, whilst still having one or two more dominant, defining personality types. Try it and see for yourself https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/rheti-sampler/
At the very least, personality tests can be a bit of fun and at best, you might get to know yourself on a whole new level.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments below. Are there any other good personality tests you know of? And do let me know your results!
All my love to you, and here’s to computers that know us better than ourselves ;o)
